I had the chance to attend the John D. O' Bryant Boston Tech Alumni Association Relaunch & Mixer event on Saturday, July 16. It was a great opportunity to see and reconnect with some old high school classmates. I cannot believe it has been 18 years since I graduated from high school! It's was truly great to see those, I haven't seen since graduating.
While at the event, a classmate and I started talking about the fun times we had participating in the MIT NSBE Jr. Chapter. What a blast, thinking about the conferences we attended like it was only a couple months ago and not actually in 1997.
This made me think back and remember other organizations that my life was impacted by. Check out the organizations, NSBE Jr and INROADS by clicking on the names below. I encourage you to join and/or suggest to the youth and young adults in your life!!
Until next time,
ORGANIZATIONS THAT MAKE AN IMPACT:
NSBE JR. CHAPTER
I loved, loved, and loved participating in this program!! There aren't enough words I can say to encourage youth to join NSBE Jr. Make sure you check them out.
The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) program is designed to stimulate the interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, or STEM. The goal is to encourage students in grades K–12 to attend college and pursue technical degrees. This program provides activities to help students discover firsthand how engineering and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development and teamwork.
I started INROADS the end of my sophomore year in college. This program helped me gain the skills I needed to be successful in my career up to this day. I worked in the MetLife Auto & Home Corporate Law and Compliance Department during my internship and was hired full-time with the company after graduating Johnson & Wales University. I was truly impacted by this program and still in contact with my mentors developed during that time.
INROADS is the nation’s largest non-profit source of paid internships for undergraduate, diverse youth. By providing the skills, support, and network students need to obtain an internship at a top company, INROADS prepares students to lead and contribute from Day 1!
